Thierry Henry's response as Jamie Carragher begs USMNT to hire him live on TV

Former England and Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has urged US Soccer to appoint Thierry Henry as the new USMNT head coach.

It's been all change within the hierarchy of the USMNT, and they remain without a long-term coach after Gregg Berhalter's contract expired. The hunt for a new coach to lead the talented group is on, and with Copa America and the World Cup set to come within the next three years, it's a decision they must get right.

One man that's now out of contract and looking to get back into management is Henry, someone who has not only played in Major League Soccer, but also coached in. Henry was asked about his availability and whether he would take on the USMNT, but Carragher took over as he demanded that US Soccer hire the Frenchman.

"US Soccer, come on! You know what you've got to do," Carragher shouted while live on CBS. "Appoint the man! Come on, bring that man in! He's a World Cup winner, European winner, he knows the league, players respect him, get him in!"

Henry has been serving as an assistant to Roberto Martinez, who recently left his role with the Belgium national team and has already been appointed by Portugal. Henry did not follow him though, and has not been shy about wanting to get back into management himself.

The Frenchman won it all in football, and is one of the most decorated players of all-time. He also became a hero in MLS when joining New York Red Bulls, and he had a brief spell in charge of Montreal Impact.

US Soccer have to get their appointment right, as not only are they playing in the 2024 Copa America and 2026 World Cup, the United States are hosting both major events. But Henry did respond to whether he would take on the role, hinting he would like to have a go.

"Well, that's a tricky one. First and foremost Roberto Martinez has gone to Portugal and I haven't gone with him. I'm no longer a no.2 so that's (management) something I'd like to do," he said.

"I would like to have a crack at it... Do I know the players? Yeah, I know the players. Do I know the league? Yeah, I know the league. Would I want to be a manager at any level? Yes, of course.

"To go back to the USMNT and US Soccer in general, what's the plan, the philosophy? What do you want to be? When you ask yourself those questions you're eventually going to find out those answers."

The USMNT fielded the youngest starting XI during the 2022 World Cup, and their talent is expected to blossom by the time 2026 rolls around. Henry has just finished working with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne, and could develop the American youngsters drastically.
