Thierry Henry makes Erling Haaland goal prediction and tips Man City ace to break Premier League record

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has backed Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to make history by scoring six goals in one game for the Blues.

The Norwegian striker has registered 23 goals and three assists in 18 appearances in all competitions since joining Pep Guardiola's side in the summer. Haaland is currently the Premier League's top goalscorer, having scored six more than second-placed Harry Kane.

Haaland has already scored three hat-tricks in the top flight, and Henry believes the 22-year-old will become the first player in history to score six times in one match. The current record for the most goals in one Premier League match is jointly held by Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Jermain Defoe, Dimitar Berbatov and City legend Sergio Aguero - who all scored five goals.

Henry, who scored 175 Premier League goals, has also backed Haaland to reach 50 goals across all competitions after his scintillating start to the season.

During an interview with Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video Sport, Henry said: "He's (Haaland) a new old-school breed of striker. I think in his time at Man City he will have a game with six goals, he will. With the amount of chances that Man City does create."

He added: "Will he score 50 goals in a season? Not in the league overall but yeah he will."

The former Arsenal ace went on to compare Haaland to a number of legendary strikers, including Gerd Muller and ex-England forward Gary Lineker.

"He’s an old-school striker, I would compare him to a Shearer, I would compare him to a Lineker, I would compare him to Gerd Müller, I would compare him to Paolo Rossi. I would compare him to Pippo Inzaghi," said Henry.

Haaland is on course to break a host of records this term, with the striker needing just 14 more goals in 24 games to match the Premier League record over a 38-game season, which was set by Mohamed Salah, who scored 32.

Should the Norwegian score 16 more goals, he would go level with Cole and Shearer, who both registered 34 goals when there were 42 games in a campaign.
