Thierry Henry gives Mikel Arteta support with clear Arsenal target ahead of Premier League start

Thierry Henry had been criticised last season for his failure to support Arsenal whenever the topic about the Gunners was bought forward to him. It led many to believe that the legendary forward was not a supporter of Mikel Arteta’s rebuilding process.

However, in Amazon’s new All or Nothing documentary which covers Arsenal’s 2021/2022 campaign, Henry is seen supporting Arteta after being asked about the expectations of the team.

The Frenchman also lays the expectations on what it must take to succeed at the north London club. And with the Gunners’ transfer window ahead of the 2022/2023 campaign, Arsenal are in an excellent position to match Henry’s demands.

Speaking about Arsenal in Amazon’s All or Nothing documentary, Henry said: “Let’s not hide from the fact that this is Arsenal, you have to make top four.

"Surely pride has to kick in because I get annoyed when people have a go at the manager, ‘he can’t handle it’ no they, they cannot handle it.”

Throughout last season Arteta was constantly criticised for Arsenal’s failure in coming close to Champions League qualification, however, towards the end of the campaign the Gunners also exceeded expectations by finishing in the top four, despite the north London side being doubted about their chances.

Henry was one influential figure at the time who had his distrust towards Arteta due to his performances with the club. Speaking at the Prime Video Presents Sport 2021 showcase event, he said: "I don't know if things are going in the right direction.

"I watched the Brighton game. Did you watch it? I've seen us beating Norwich before, winning at Burnley, beating Tottenham at home - because we always beat Tottenham at home."

Despite the criticism which sat wrongly with sections of Arsenal supporters, his most recent quotes where he supports Arteta and does not solely give him the blame certainly adds clarity to his quotes from last season.

Due to the poor start to the previous campaign, there is a lot of anticipation that Arsenal will have a better beginning this season. And a major reason for this is due to Edu’s impressive business in the transfer market.

So far, the Gunners have signed Marquinhos, Matt Turner, Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, and Olexsandr Zinchenko. And it seems that the business is not yet over for the north London side. A Champions League finish for the Gunners this season will seem to have Henry fully on board in trusting Arteta’s rebuilding process.
