Thierry Henry explains why he's happy Kylian Mbappe copied his goal celebration

Thierry Henry has revealed he was happy to see Kylian Mbappe copy his memorable corner flag goal celebration as it means his children are aware the pair know each other.

Mbappe has been in fine form for French giants Paris Saint-Germain this season and come up with what could prove to be a vital goal in their quest for a first Champions League title on Tuesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino's side welcomed Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid to the French capital for the first-leg of their round of 16 clash in a game that Mbappe provide the decisive moment just seconds from full-time.

The former Monaco man jinked his way into the penalty area between Eder Militao and Lucas Vasquez to slot an Henry-esque finish between the legs of Thibaut Courtois.

Prior to that clash, PSG enjoyed a Ligue 1 contest which saw them host Rennes in yet another game that looked to be heading towards a 0-0 draw before another late Mbappe intervention.

The 23-year-old scored in added time to hand his side all three points before wheeling away to the corner flag to emulate another familiar French goalscorer in Henry.

Discussing the moment with CBS Sports while on punditry duty, Henry reflected on when he did the celebration while plying his trade in the USA for the New York Red Bulls.

"Do you know why I did that? I was tired, we were playing in Houston, guys will know when you play in Houston - 50 degrees, I saw them flag and I went 'that's a bit too far mate' and stayed there," the former Arsenal man explained.

"But you know why I was happy? because my son asked me if I knew Mbappe and I said 'of course I know' and he didn't believe me, so now he does."

Intense speculation surrounding Mbappe's club future continues to linger as hope fades from a PSG perspective of the forward signing a new deal.

Despite trying his best to eliminate them from the Champions League, Real Madrid remains Mbappe's most likely destination when his current contract runs out at the end of this season.

However, the rumours clearly did not impact Mbappe's performance at all, as he explained after the game against Los Blancos.

"It's easy, you have to play football. We ask too many questions, we say too many things to each other," he said.

"We talk about PSG and Real, two great clubs. I'm a PSG player, I'm always very happy.

"How do we approach the return? We have to win! First of all for us to be competitors.

"Going there to say that we have a result is not worthy of a club like PSG. We'll have to analyse the match, it will be a different context."
