Thief stole booze and newspaper from Stirling convenience store

A thief who stole booze and a newspaper from a Stirling convenience store was this week sentenced to two months and 20 days imprisonment.

Rory Fisher, of Edward Avenue, had been out of prison on licence when he carried out three offences over three consecutive days, at Riverside Mini Market on February 10, 11 and 12, 2021.

The 36-year-old had nicked booze from the store on February 10 worth £3, a newspaper worth £3.60 on February 11, and booze worth £3 on February 12. Stirling Sheriff Court heard this week that none of the items had been recovered.

Sheriff Derek Hamilton noted that Fisher, who appeared from Low Moss prison via videolink, had 11 months outstanding of an unexpired portion of a sentence at the time of the offences.

Fisher had been out on licence on matters involving a machete, assault to injury and attempted robbery, he added.

Fisher’s agent Alastair Ross accepted that the court’s options were limited, but pointed out that his client “was keen to engage with support”.

Sentencing Fisher, Sheriff Hamilton told him he had been out on licence at the time of the offences – with 11 months outstanding - and ordered him to return to prison to serve two months of that sentence.

He also sentenced him to 80 days’ imprisonment on the thefts from Riverside Mini Market, reduced from 120 days due to the guilty pleas.

These terms were to run consecutively.
