Thiago Silva has told Chelsea they are approaching crunch time in talks about a new contract.
Brazil veteran Silva, 38, will see his deal expire next summer and wants his future resolved in the next couple of months. Silva said: “I can tell you that what is important is to continue playing at a high level and help the team to achieve the best possible results.
“For sure, there will be a time when we need to talk, it could be before the World Cup or after the World Cup because I need to know whether I will have a new contract with Chelsea for my family arrangements.
“If I don’t have a new contract, I will have to decide what to do. For my family it's an important decision. We will see what happens.”
Silva had three years at AC Milan as a player and says it will be a highly “emotional” return to face his former club in the Champions League on Tuesday, even hinting that he would like to come back in the future as coach.
Speaking on Monday, he added: “I have already made my history here at AC Milan, so this isn't the case here anymore at the moment.
Should Chelsea hand Thiago Silva a new contract? Have your say in the comments!
”If this could've happened, it should've been before I joined Chelsea. But I don’t know about the future, who knows what will happen. We will have to think then.
“I am very happy to be at Chelsea, a very big club, great professionals. In the future we will see, maybe [I will come back] as the coach. Who knows.
“I am very happy and excited to be here again after 11 or 12 years. All the nice experiences I've had here came back to my mind and tomorrow I will be even more excited and moved. I will have to be mentally strong and focused not he match because there is going to be a great emotion.”
