Thiago Silva opens up on retirement as Chelsea veteran admits uncertainty over future

Thiago Silva has discussed his uncertainty over his future ahead of potentially retiring from playing.

The Chelsea defender, 39, is out of contract at the end of the season having enjoyed a successful stint at Stamford Bridge, now into its fourth season, despite being in the twilight of his career.

No decision has been made by the club on Silva's future and he has admitted to not knowing what he wants to do, with his family at the forefront of his thoughts.

“The end of my career is approaching and it’s not easy," he told Sky Sports Italia.

"I have to think if I retire or if I continue, and where I go. There’s the family, I have two sons who play for Chelsea.

“At the moment I'll take the opportunity to play and make the most of this last year of my contract at Chelsea. But I’m very happy and proud of the career I’ve had, of what I’m doing now at 39 years old.

“I have prepared all my life to make the most of my work, football is my passion. Surely after I retire I will continue in this world, I don’t know how yet."

Silva has played every minute of Chelsea's Premier League campaign so far but is likely to be rested for this week's Carabao Cup tie against Blackburn.
