Thiago Silva makes Chelsea contract admission as dream inspired by AC Milan and PSG is revealed

Thiago Silva has hinted he would be open to staying at Chelsea beyond his current contract and says his dream is to win the Premier League title with the Blues.

The Brazil international arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020, having been released by Paris Saint-Germain. Many viewed him as a stop-gap signing, an experienced head to guide a young Chelsea squad for a season. Few truly envisaged the impact the 37-year-old would make under Frank Lampard and then Thomas Tuchel.

Silva has become an integral figure in the side and has proved himself one of the finest centre-backs in the European game. He has made 82 appearances in just two seasons and lifted the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup. But he is far from done.

The Brazilian is contracted to the Blues until the end of the 2022/23 season, at which point he will be 38 years old. However, Silva, who has been called the Benjamin Button of football by Tuchel, harbours ambitions of playing into his forties and has suggested he could stay for a fourth season with Chelsea.

"It's strange. You come for one season, and you don't know what's going to happen because people look at you and maybe have a few doubts because of your age," Silva told Chelsea's matchday programme ahead of the Blues' final Premier League game of the season, a 2-1 win over Watford.

"I was happy to accept for a second season and now a third – and who knows, maybe even a fourth after that! I'm happy here, my family is happy, and that helps a lot because when I go outside of the pitch, it can only go well as well. I feel good in London. I feel at home.

"Even when I first came to London, I feel at home inside the stadium, I felt the love from the fans on social media, and that goes a long way. We play well when we feel at home."

Silva's long career at the top level has been decorated with silverware. During his time with AC Milan, he won Serie A. When with PSG, he claimed seven Ligue 1 titles and 17 domestic honours. And as highlighted above, he has clinched the biggest prize in the European game with Chelsea.

Yet the Brazilian wants more. "Honestly, the Premier League... it's a dream, something that I crave. In all the national leagues I've played in before, I've won, and the Premier League is no different in my eyes – it is something I really want to win.

"We won the Champions League last season, and now I have the Premier League in my mind. It's not to discard any other competition, but the Premier League is the one I really want to win."
