Thiago back in squad as Liverpool make three changes to line-up against Napoli

James Milner will start in midfield for Liverpool as they take on Napoli in the Champions League at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The 36-year-old came on as a substitute in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Everton and has been picked tonight alongside Fabinho and Harvey Elliott in a midfield three.

Spanish playmaker Thiago is back in the squad following a lengthy spell out with a hamstring injury. He makes the bench.

Roberto Firmino has also been preferred to Darwin Nunez upfront, despite the Uruguayan scoring six goals in 10 European games for Benfica last season.

Andy Robertson has returned to the starting line-up after being rested for the Merseyside derby, while the trio of Joel Matip, Diogo Jota and Thiago are all fit enough for the bench.

Deadline day signing Arthur Melo is also among the substitutes as he looks for his debut.

It means there are three changes to that side that took on Everton, with Robertson, Milner and Firmino starting in place of Kostas Tsimikas, Fabio Carvalho and Nunez.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Elliott, Milner, Salah, Firmino, Diaz.

Subs: Adrian, Davies, Thiago, Jota, Tsimikas, Nunez, Arthur, Matip, Bajcetic, Phillips.

Napoli: Meret, Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Minjae, Olivera, Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski, Politano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.
