Thibaut Courtois has said he prepared to ‘give his life’ to win the Champions League for Real Madrid following his man-of-the-match performance in Saturday’s final victory over Liverpool.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper made nine saves, which was a record in a Champions League final since 2003/04, to keep out the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in Paris.
And speaking to reporters after Madrid's 1-0 win, the Belgian revealed he had spoken to both friends, both at Liverpool and who support at the Reds, before the final as he revelled in being crowned a European champion.

“The most important save was the one I saved from Mane on to the post,” Courtois said. “I had to push hard to get it on to the post then turn fast to get the rebound.
“I have friends at Liverpool and Liverpool-supporting friends. They told me I would be humbled but it was the opposite.
“I felt no-one was going to get past me from the first minutes. I was going to give my life to win the Champions League for Real Madrid and I managed it.”
