Glen Johnson believes West Ham United will avoid relegation as he believes there are teams that are “a lot worse” than his former club.
But the former Hammers defender has concerns over consistency as David Moyes’ side struggle to put a good run together.
With West Ham out of action at the weekend due to Manchester City’s involvement in the FA Cup quarter-finals, the London side dropped back into the relegation zone to 18th and are currently a point adrift of safety after Leeds United claimed a 4-2 win against fellow relegation rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

West Ham’s position in the relegation battle could be impacted further before they play again bottom side Southampton at the London Stadium on Sunday, April 2, with Leeds, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Wolves playing a day earlier.
West Ham have managed to win back-to-back Premier League games just once this season and their longest unbeaten run has lasted just three matches, which Johnson admits is a concern.
Johnson told Midnite: “West Ham will stay up, but then they often scare me! As soon as they get a good result, we feel that they can carry on the momentum and then they just lose again. There are teams that are a lot worse than West Ham, but they need points on the board.”
West Ham’s precarious position in the league has piled pressure on manager Moyes, who has managed to maintain the backing of the board so far. Although there are calls for a change of manager from some supporters, Johnson does not believe it will help the Hammers with their current situation.
“A change in manager will not help West Ham going forward,” Johnson added. “Moyes has been in this position more than most managers. It will be a case of sticking together and working hard and working with the materials that they have got to escape the relegation zone."
