'They have made our nation proud': Amit Shah hails India's shooting trio

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his hearty congratulations to the Indian shooting trio of Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey for securing a silver medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle team event at the ongoing 19th Asian Games. India's medal-winning performance marked a sparkling start to the Asian Games, and Amit Shah praised the shooters for making the nation proud.

In a message shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Amit Shah expressed his admiration for the athletes, saying, "Congratulations to our shooter trio Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey on winning the silver medal in the women's 10m Air Rifle event at the #AsianGames. They have made our nation proud. My best wishes are with them for future endeavours."

In the Women's 10 Metre Air Rifle team event, India secured the silver medal with a total score of 1886. Ramita, Mehuli, and Ashi contributed significantly, with Ramita finishing with a score of 631.9, Mehuli with 630.8, and Ashi with 623.3.

Furthermore, Mehuli and Ramita's outstanding performances earned them second and fifth places, respectively, in the individual event qualification. Ashi finished 29th in the individual event qualification.

Following their success in the team event, Ramita continued her impressive performance by claiming a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event. She achieved a score of 230.1, securing the third position.

China's Han Jiayu won the silver medal in the same event with a score of 251.3, while her compatriot Huang Yuting clinched the gold with 252.7 points, setting a new Games record. Another Indian shooter, Mehuli Ghosh, who had qualified for the final, finished in fourth place.

The Indian shooting trio's remarkable achievements at the 19th Asian Games have set a positive tone for India's participation in the competition.
