'They hate us' - Riyad Mahrez makes controversial Liverpool claims after Man City win title

Riyad Mahrez has suggested Liverpool are 'sick of' and 'hate' Manchester City after being beaten to a Premier League title by a single point for the second time in three years.

The two sides went head-to-head for the top-flight crown during the 2018/19 season, which ended with Pep Guardiola's side beating Brighton on the final day to reach a tally of 98 points.

Liverpool's home victory over Wolves was not enough for the Reds reach 97 points, missing out on the title in dramatic circumstances.

History repeated itself at Anfield earlier this afternoon as Jurgen Klopp's men were again denied becoming champions of England despite and the chance of a quadruple. Had this Sky Blues side not been around at the same time as the Reds' current crop, Klopp would have perhaps secured a further two titles to add to the trophy cabinet.

Fully aware of this fact, Mahrez has claimed City will continue to make life difficult for Liverpool and are eager to continue causing frustration on Merseyside.

“Liverpool are a mad team, they are a superb team.. I know they hate us, ” the Algerian winger told French channel Canal+ after today's title triumph.

“They're sick of us because if we weren't here they would've won everything every year, but we're here and we're never letting go and we'll be here next year too," added the former Leicester City star.

There's every chance the two teams will be battling it out for the Premier League once again next term, in what's likely to be another high-quality race to the finish line.

The Citizens have already added Erling Haaland to their ranks, sending out an early statement of intent ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
