'They didn't want to play - Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay involved in tunnel row

Manchester United's Scott McTominay was involved in a row with opposition players on Tuesday night, as they appealed in the tunnel for Scotland's game to be postponed due to a large amount of surface water gathering on the pitch.

McTominay started for Scotland in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia at Hampden Park and his nation took a 1-0 lead immediately after the first whistle, but the game was suspended after six minutes because of torrential rain.

The game was brought to a halt for more than an hour and a half and while ground staff attempted to clear the surface water on the pitch, Georgia's players inside the tunnel tried to persuade the referee to postpone the fixture.

McTominay took umbrage to the Georgia appeals and he was overheard saying outside the dressing room: "Wait a minute here, you know, I know that's playable out there. Let's just get it on."

The game eventually resumed just after 9:30pm and Scotland went on to win 2-0 with the second goal from McTominay. The 26-year-old has been key for Scotland in their qualifying campaign and he spoke to media after the win.

McTominay told Viaplay: "Obviously the first few minutes all players were saying 'you can't play on a pitch like this' but then we scored and then obviously they didn't want to play and we obviously did because we were winning and that's the way it has to be.

"Full credit to the boys. We were warm in there and kept our heads and I thought they were a little bit rattled when they didn't want to play so I feel like we kept concentration and the game plan and did really well."

McTominay made just 10 league starts this season for United but he's a valued squad member for Erik ten Hag.
