With energy prices set to rise from £1,971 to £3,549 next month after the new energy price cap was revealed, many households are thinking about ways to keep costs down.
Luckily Hive has plenty of nifty devices to make your home more energy-efficient, and help you save those pennies this winter.
Not only do these products help reduce energy usage, but you’ll also be helping the environment at the same time. Most of the smart home tech products are connected to an app on smartphones which show users how much energy they are using, how much it’s costing them and the ability to switch on or off your electricity when you’re out and about.
From LED light bulbs to smart thermostats, here are the best Hive products to invest in to help you save on your energy bills.
Best Hive products
Hive Active Heating thermostat (£161.10)
One of the most popular and well known smart home technology products is the Hive thermostat. As with most smart thermostats, it allows users to control the heating in their home from their smartphone, whether they are at home or out of the house.
It shows customers how much energy they are using each day, week and month to see how much money they can save by using less.
Users can set the thermostat to come on at certain times at the temperature they like, for example, they can programme the thermostat to turn the heating on an hour before they are due to come home from work.
If you have privacy settings activated, it will also let you know if you've gone out and left the heating on. It can then send you a reminder to turn it off.
Another benefit is its 'frost protection', which turns on your heating to help stop your pipes from freezing when the temperature drops below seven degrees.
Similarly, it has a holiday mode where you can tell your thermostat your holiday dates and set it to turn on just before you come back.

Hive Active Light bulbs (from £19)
Another way in which you can save money is by investing in some smart LED light bulbs. You can connect these smart bulbs to your app via Wi-Fi, which then allows you to switch the lights on or off when you’re out and about - perfect for someone who always forgets! What’s more? You can also adjust the brightness from the app, so you can set them low in the morning for just enough light to find the bathroom, or dial them up in the evening when the sun goes down.
Hive Active Plug (£39)
In a recent blog post by British Gas, the company shared their 10 best ways to save energy at home - and one point was to unplug your electrical devices when they’re not being used which could save you £60 a year.
Now, we know it’s a pretty simple task, but it’s easier said than done when rushing out the house. This is why British Gas suggests investing in the Hive Active Plug which is a smart plug that works like an adaptor. The plug allows you to switch any electrical device on or off from wherever you are with a tap of the app… just imagine not panicking about leaving the straighteners on ever again.
