We're always a little sad to see New York Fashion Week go. At least it leaves some cool trends to try mastering off the runways in its wake. This season is no exception. Of course, there are a couple of crazes that won't really translate into the real world. Although many of the New York Fashion Week Fall 2025 trends aren't that tricky to pull off.

As predicted, one color dominates collections. It's not the one you're probably assuming, though. It's also presented in many forms, from bright, almost neon incarnations to deeper, moodier hues. Scarves are having an identity crisis. They're still being attached to coats, but they're being pushed out in favor of another equally cozy piece of clothing. Waists are being sucked in, while peplums are spreading out underneath. Meanwhile, ladylike blazers are proving popular, but with a strong-shouldered, 80s update.

Pantone may have selected Mocha Mousse as its Color of the Year, but according to the runways, red is very much in fashion. We're not just talking one shade, either. You've got your classic cherry red, more maroon shades and even wine hues. Sometimes all in one outfit.

Dramatic Draping

Coming hot off the heels of the ubiquitous scarf-jacket hybrids, draping is turning into an art form. Kobi Halperin wraps long fabric around shoulders and arms, while Khaite's leather jacket flexes and folds. Altuzarra produces a cape effect via a rich, cropped camel coat. Brandon Maxwell's patterned outerwear offers layers coming and going. Calvin Klein really piles things on with draping around the chest and along the hem, producing a poncho-like silhouette.

Snatched Waists

Thanks to Jean Paul Gaultier, corsets will always be in the fashion lexicon. This season, everyone from Khaite to Carolina Herrera are cinching waistlines, resulting in hourglass silhouettes. The former takes things pretty literally by unveiling a romantic, short-sleeve shirt that clearly helps define midsections. At the latter, suit blazers lean slightly inward to create structure. Jackets also get in on the action, from Eckhaus Latta's leather, hooded take that narrows thanks to full sleeves to Aknvas' elastic-waist creation, which can double as a micro dress. LaPointe relies on strategic draping to pull things in.

Peplums 3.0

Waists may be constricting, but peplums are balancing things out. Bibhu Mohapatra embraces a subtle approach that complements a stark top's exaggerated sleeves. Ulla Johnson's collarless zip-up also boasts a subdued extension. Both Christopher John Rogers and Christian Siriano added versions to striking dresses. Over at Ashlyn, a halter top is made much more interesting with a bubble-like hem.

Sweaters as Scarves

Scarves may be getting more dramatic (see above), but they're also fighting to stay in wardrobes. Sweaters are the new way to stay warm. Not layered over T-shirts and blouses, but tied around necks. Brandon Maxwell actually incorporates even more texture by topping off a fluffy gray top with a gray ribbed sweater. Monse creates an optical illusion by attaching a second pair of sleeves to a Fair Isle turtleneck. Tory Burch secures another sweater with a stylish brooch. TWP, on the other hand, keeps its sweater askew to make sure everyone knows its true identity.

Boss Lady

Calvin Klein's return to the runway received a lot of hype and, boy, did Veronica Leoni deliver. She masterfully mixed structure and more relaxed silhouettes. The label suited up with a boxy ladylike jacket and coordinating pencil skirt. Bevza supplies a pinstripe pairing, while Prabal Gurung's blazer got in on the no pants action.
