The MTV Video Music Awards are known for over-the-top live performances with outrageous outfits and equally eye-catching red carpet ensembles. Although this year's carpet was technically black, the stars still came to play. Some embraced old-school glamour, others prove that showing plenty of skin is still in. The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards definitely delivered some truly scene-stealing looks.

Take Sabrina Carpenter's vintage Bob Mackie gown that literally sparkled from every single direction. It was a shout-out to Old Hollywood glitz and was actually worn by Madonna to the 1991 Oscars. Halsey also went vintage in a red and black leopard print Versace sheath. Blackpink's Lisa rocked a dramatic hooded Mugler gown with a semi-sheer corset bodice. Coco Jones looked ethereal in a shimmering waterfall dress, while Halle Bailey's red sequin dress featured a revealing strapless neckline. Chappell Roan channeled a medieval princess in Y/Project before she ruled the stage as a knight.

Taylor Swift went for a rather edgy ensemble outfitted in plaid Christian Dior complete with black strappy opera gloves. Olympian Jordan Chiles sported Off-White to the awards, which she later decorated with a bedazzled bronze clock courtesy of Flavor Flav. Meanwhile, Camila Cabello went gothic in a gorgeous Tony Ward dress. As host, Megan Thee Stallion had several outfit changes, but she kicked off the night in a Nicole + Felicia creation. Video Vanguard Award winner Katy Perry wore a super distressed top and maxi skirt courtesy of Who Decides War. And Tyla was impossible to miss in a strappy yellow minidress and vibrant accessories.
