These are the most expensive contested elections in the North Carolina House

Elections for all 120 seats in the North Carolina House of Representatives will take place on Nov. 8, 2022. Republicans hold a 68-51 majority heading into the election.

This article details the five most expensive contested general elections in the House of Representatives.

This information comes from candidate reports to the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) covering the period of Jan. 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.

Five general elections with the most fundraising

#1 District 9 – $334,499

Incumbent Brian Farkas (D) raised $201,597 and Timothy Reeder (R) raised $132,902.

#2 District 73 – $304,111

Brian Echevarria (R) raised $201,818 and Diamond Staton-Williams (D) raised $102,293.

#3 District 54 – $287,735

Incumbent Robert Reives (D) raised $254,640 and Walter Petty (R) raised $33,095.

#4 District 37 – $284,021

Incumbent Erin Paré (R) raised $233,035, Christine Kelly (D) raised $50,746, and Christopher Robinson (U) raised $240.

#5 District 63 – $269,406

Incumbent Ricky Hurtado (D) raised $248,251 and Stephen M. Ross (R) raised $21,155.

The data above are based on campaign finance reports that active North Carolina PACs submitted to the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE). Political expenditures that are not controlled by candidates or their campaigns, known as satellite spending, are not included in candidate totals. Federal PACs are not required to report to state agencies.
