These are the most expensive contested elections in the Michigan House

Elections for all 110 seats in the Michigan House of Representatives will take place on Nov. 8, 2022. Republicans hold a 56-53 majority heading into the election.

This article details the five most expensive contested general elections in the House of Representatives.

This information comes from candidate reports to the Michigan Secretary of State covering the period of Jan. 1, 2021, through Aug. 22, 2022.

Five general elections with the most fundraising

#1 District 42 – $922,060

Incumbent Matt Hall (R) raised $869,206 and Justin Mendoza (D) raised $52,854.

#2 District 73 – $447,148

Incumbent Julie Brixie (D) raised $399,683 and Norm Shinkle (R) raised $47,465.

#3 District 103 – $403,097

Incumbent Jack O’Malley (R) raised $175,214, Betsy Coffia (D) raised $227,883, and Courtney Evans (U) raised $0.

#4 District 102 – $392,846

Curt VanderWall (R) raised $365,704 and Brian Hosticka (D) raised $27,142.

#5 District 76 – $306,045

Incumbent Angela Witwer (D) raised $303,792 and Jeremy Whittum (R) raised $2,253.

The data above are based on campaign finance reports that active Michigan PACs submitted to the Michigan Secretary of State. Political expenditures that are not controlled by candidates or their campaigns, known as satellite spending, are not included in candidate totals. Federal PACs are not required to report to state agencies.
