These are the most expensive contested elections in the Indiana Senate

Elections for 25 of 50 seats in the Indiana State Senate will take place on Nov. 8, 2022. Republicans hold a 39-11 majority heading into the election.

This article details the five most expensive contested general elections in the State Senate.

This information comes from candidate reports to the Indiana Secretary of State covering the period of Jan. 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.

Five general elections with the most fundraising

#1 District 29 – $334,745

Incumbent J.D. Ford (D) raised $98,917 and Alexander Choi (R) raised $235,828.

#2 District 48 – $276,050

Incumbent Mark Messmer (R) raised $276,050 and Jeff Hill (D) raised $0.

#3 District 31 – $268,817

Incumbent Kyle Walker (R) raised $230,851 and Jocelyn Vare (D) raised $37,966.

#4 District 45 – $237,507

Incumbent Chris Garten (R) raised $231,825 and Nick Marshall (D) raised $5,682.

#5 District 17 – $192,666

Incumbent Andy Zay (R) raised $192,666 and Joe Swisher (D) raised $0.

The data above are based on campaign finance reports that active Indiana PACs submitted to the Indiana Secretary of State. Political expenditures that are not controlled by candidates or their campaigns, known as satellite spending, are not included in candidate totals. Federal PACs are not required to report to state agencies.
