A GOLFING haven less than an hour away from Edinburgh and a quaint seaside town close to some of the best walks in Scotland are among the poshest places to live in the country, according to a leading estate agency.
Savills has created a list of the 54 poshest villages in the UK, where demand from potential buyers is growing significantly, lifestyle amenities are available, connectivity is good – and house prices are very high.
According to analyst Frances Clacy, buyers are looking for villages with lots to offer.
“People want villages that have a bit of everything, from schools to stunning countryside, with accessibility to cities and transport infrastructure,” she said.
These were the four Scottish locations which made the list.
Gullane: East Lothian
Average house price: £356,615
According to Savills, Gullane's appeal is in its golf courses, galleries, and good restaurants.
The village, not far from North Berwick, "attracts windsurfers and also boasts the Myreton Motor Museum", the firm said.
Elie: Fife
Average house price: £349,951
The picturesque Fife village boasts five beaches, with lots of opportunity for leisure activities like watersports.
The Ship Inn and Michelin-starred Peat Inn are among the top restaurants, while a local farm shop and gallery are among the top attractions.
Strathtay: Perthshire
Average house price: £287,476
According to the property experts, this village is popular for its wildlife including red squirrels.
There's a popular pub close to the River Tay, which has been open since 1909, and the bluebell-carpeted woods are great for a stroll.
Killearn: Stirling
Average house price £315,927
This location is desirable because of its nearby distillery, theatre school, and village hall with a popular café. It's also just 17 miles from Glasgow.
