With the New Year looming, people across Scotland will be looking ahead to all the bank holidays coming their way and planning holidays and getaways.

Bank holidays in Scotland are different to other parts of the UK with Scots able to enjoy extra days on January 2 and St Andrew's Day.

Here are all the bank holiday dates workers in Scotland can expect in 2025, according to the Scottish Government website.

January 1, 2025 - Wednesday - New Year's Day

January 2, 2025 - Thursday - January 2

April 18, 2025 - Friday - Good Friday

May 5, 2025 - Monday - Early May

May 26, 2025 - Monday - Spring

August 4, 2025 - Monday - Summer

December 1, 2025 (substitute day) - Monday - St Andrew's Day

December 25, 2025 - Thursday - Christmas Day

December 26, 2025 - Friday - Boxing Day

What are substitute days for bank holidays?

Substitute days occur when bank holidays fall on a weekend (when most people have time off) and are moved to the nearest weekday.

This will happen with St Andrew's Day in 2025, seeing the bank holiday moved to Monday, December 1.

Is St Andrew's Day a bank holiday?

While St Andrew's Day was declared a bank holiday by the Scottish Parliament in 2006, banks are not legally required to close on November 30.

Employers are also not required by law to give employees a holiday on St Andrew's Day.
