Therese Coffey's first outing as deputy prime minister was briefly interrupted as her own alarm went off live on air - blaring out a hit by the American rapper Dr Dre.
The close friend and ally of the new prime minister Liz Truss burst into laughter during an interview on LBC radio after forgetting to silence her phone's 8am alarm.
The 50-year-old had been answering questions on her new role as deputy prime minister and health secretary when she had to cut off interviewer Nick Ferrari mid-question.
As the rapper's 1999 hit with Snoop Dog - Still D.R.E - rang out, the cabinet minister said: "I've just realised my alarm is going off on my phone".
Asked by presenter Mr Ferrari what the alarm was intended for, she added: "You're getting a bit of Dr Dre. It's just an 8 o'clock alarm, sorry, let me just turn that off."
Prompting laughter from the deputy PM, the broadcaster added: "That's fantastic - Dr Coffey with Dr Dre as the health secretary. It just gets better and better."
The official government website gives a hint of Ms Coffey's musical tastes - but doesn't mention Dr Dre.
Instead, it states: "Therese enjoys watching football, gardening and music, especially Muse."
In a series of interviews on Wednesday - before Ms Truss faces Keir Starmer for the first time - the cabinet minister also insisted her anti-abortion views were "nothing to see here" after facing criticism from a charity.
After being quizzed on her views, she said: “I’m conscious I have voted against abortion laws.
“What I will say is I’m a complete democrat and that is done. It’s not that I’m seeking to undo any aspects of abortion laws.”
She also insisted the new PM Ms Truss had appointed a "government of all talents" - despite culling supporters of leadership rival Rishi Sunak from the cabinet.
Ms Coffey told Sky News: "Liz has appointed a cabinet of a mixture of whether it's people of her proactive supporters, people who did not support her as well".
