There's no Euro panic at Motherwell, insists midfield ace Liam Donnelly

Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly says his side aren't worried about losing their grip on a Premiership top-six place or even a European slot, and insists they're not even talking about it.

The Northern Irishman claims he didn't even know Motherwell haven't won a league game yet in 2022 until after Wednesday night's 1-0 defeat to Ross County.

But the 25-year-old says there's no panic, and that the Steelmen are still in a strong position to finish the season strongly, with a bit of fine-tuning.

When asked if there's a danger that not winning could become a mental block, Donnelly said: "I suppose it could, in a way, but it's not something that we've really been speaking about or mentioning.

"It's not something that is in our minds, really. I think we're still quite happy with the majority of our performances.

"It's nothing that's been mentioned in the dressing room at all - I didn't even realise that stat until after the game on Wednesday.

"Obviously the results haven't been what we want so far, but we're still in a good position, so a few small tweaks can change that.

"A few results and we'll be right back where we want to be.

"There has been a lot of negativity since it [Wednesday's defeat], but in terms of from us there's absolutely no panic.

"We know we're still in a strong position to finish the season the way we want to, we know we just need to fine-tune a few things - stop giving away sloppy goals, keep clean sheets and at the other end putting our chances away."

Motherwell host basement side Dundee this afternoon - managed by two-time former Fir Park boss Mark McGhee - but Donnelly says it's not the ideal game to launch a comeback from.

He said: "It's a big game. I think with the league table at the minute, most games will be.

"There are a lot of teams who are fighting for the European places, there are teams at the bottom who will be fighting to stay in the league, too, but there is never an easy game in this league, no matter who you're playing against.

"Different teams will bring different challenges, but we need to be on it 100 per cent, and if we are then we can get a result against anybody.

"It would be nice for the fans for us to get a win in front of them again, and they're obviously getting frustrated with the results, too, but we are as well.

"We just need to stick together, make sure we're working towards getting the win, and getting back to where we want to be.

"Sometimes it doesn't happen, sometimes things just don't fall for you the way you'd like, or had hoped, but there's no panic, I still think we're in a good position.

"Fourth place and a European place is still well within our grasp, so we look forward to tomorrow, to hopefully getting three points, and getting back on track to achieve what we want.

"We're definitely still confident that we can achieve it, we're only two points off it. We've seen how results go in this league that any team can take points off each other on any given day.

"Any team we play against it's going to be a difficult game, no matter their position in the league, and it's certainly not going to be the case that they're bottom, we're just going to turn up and turn them over.

"They're going to be fighting for their lives to get the three points too, to try and keep themselves in the league, so it's not going to be easy.

"But we're looking forward to tomorrow, hopefully making that right and getting the result, and starting to win a few games again."
