Given the strength of Bristol City's academy, it may not be long before one of the youngsters puts on an England shirt in the future.
Alex Scott is the obvious standout candidate, especially after lifting the Euro Under-19 Championships this summer, and there will be an enormous sense of pride in the red half of Bristol when it eventually happens - like any Robin representing his country.
Antoine Semenyo's journey to the World Cup with Ghana is a nod to the work he and the club have put in over the years while Mark Sykes earned his first Republic of Ireland cap over the international break following his summer move from Oxford. Tommy Conway was also rewarded for his fine form by featuring for the Scotland U-21 side.
But what there hasn't been for a while is a Bristol-born player featuring for the Three Lions. Goalkeeper Jack Butland, who grew up in Clevedon, was the last name to pull on the shirt having earned nine caps in total with his last in 2018.
In total there have been 14 players born in Bristol to have played for England - the 10th most in any city or town across the UK. According to research by Barratt Homes, Liverpool are the top producers of English internationals with 41 in total.
Birmingham, where Jude Bellingham and Jack Grealish are originally from, have 39 equal with Sheffield United. Then follows Manchester (33), Nottingham (27), Blackburn (23), Stoke (20), Sunderland (16) and Newcastle (15).
The Bristol-born player with the most caps is Eddie Hapgood who spent the large majority of his career with Arsenal. The full-back made 30 appearances for England in six years between 1933-39.
A rather more familiar name in Billy Wedlock earned 26 caps having spent his entire career in BS3 making over 400 appearances. City would build a 5,800-seater stand in his honour in 1918 which stood until it was demolished in 2014.
Bristolian Gary Mabbutt, who played for Rovers, featured 16 times for England while Cliff Britton made nine caps. In total, 40 players from the South West have played for their country, in comparison to 287 from the North West.
