A luxury boutique hotel is not what you’d expect to come across in the middle of a park in Greater Manchester. But it’s exactly what you’ll find at the heart of Bruntwood Park in Stockport.
Oddfellows On The Park is a five-star hotel in the centre of the 120-acre public park. Its unique setting gives it the atmosphere of a rural retreat, all while being within easy reach of Manchester airport and the city centre. It’s ideal for those who like a country escape but don’t want to be in the middle of nowhere.
It’s run by the same owners as the original Oddfellows in Chester, who renovated the original Victorian building - previously called Bruntwood Hall - and transformed it into a 22-bedroom boutique hotel. Like its sister hotel it's full of quirky design features, such as a chandelier over the staircase which is made from bike chains.
Having opened in 2017, the hotel has a range of rooms available from cosy club rooms which are perfect for a weekend getaway, to indulgent suites with four poster beds and roll top bath tubs. Located in the eaves of the building are the Playground suites which are particularly full of character, with exposed beams and views of the park.
There’s plenty of space for guests to relax and unwind - or they can venture into the park and enjoy a walk through the trees. The hotel has an outdoor terrace with extensive views of the parkland, which is open all year round thanks to heated lamps and parasols.
If you’re feeling peckish then you can grab a bite to eat in the hotel’s impressive restaurant, named The Galloping Major after one of the hall’s previous owners. It’s located in the hall’s original ballroom giving it a sense of grandeur and glamour.
Or you can enjoy a cocktail in The Stud Room Bar, which is inspired by the hall’s history as one of the north of England’s most successful stud farms. The hotel also offers private event spaces and hosts weddings.
Bruntwood Park itself offers a mixture of woodland walks and landscaped areas. There’s plenty to keep you occupied with a children’s play area, a BMX race track and a pitch and putt course.
Visit the hotel's website for more information.
