There’s A Reason The MAFS Cast Were All Using Those Tacky Copper Cups This Week

Whether you love her or hate her, you’ve got to admit that Married At First Sight (MAFS) bride Jacqui Burfoot is well and truly dishing all the dirt this season. The latest bit of behind-the-scenes tea? She’s revealed why every date during this week’s Grass Is Greener challenge featured the exact same copper cups.

While you might think that it could have been a coincidence that all of the locations used those kinda ugly cups for the plan B dates, Jacqui says it was so production could avoid dreaded editing fails.

In a Q&A on her backup Instagram account, Jacqui revealed that the copper cups were so that the audience couldn’t monitor how much of their drinks they’d slurped, so it was easier for production to cut moments together without worrying about continuity.

“So we drink from them…and when they cut up the scenes, they will be able to cut them and put them together to create the edit they want,” she said, per Daily Mail Australia.

“People can’t see the editing fails, so where they’ve cut lines from whatnot … They do lots of editing to get the narrative they want.”

Jacqui has been pretty vocal about the editing techniques used by MAFS producers behind the scenes.

Back when she went rogue — aka spilling goss on a different IG account not managed by MAFS or Channel Nine — Jacqui claimed that her batshit persona on the show was due to the editors.

“You’ve been fed a highly edited, fictional storyline, and I feel like you deserve to know the truth,” she wrote shortly after the season began.

Honestly, I don’t blame the producers for using those ugly ass cups. It just gives them one less thing to worry about in the editing room.

Plus, the copper cup technique is a tried and tested method for reality television. It’s also used by Love Island, Love Is Blind and some seasons of The Bachelor and Bachelorette.

So, instead of worrying about how much tequila and soda is floating around a glass, the editors can focus on the absolutely bonkers storyline unfolding in front of their eyes. Smart move, if you ask me.
