Arguably the Lake District is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the UK, attracting millions of visitors every year. Although the majority of people will experience this gorgeous national park from the ground, there’s a way you can enjoy it from the sky - and it won’t break the bank.
From just £103 per person you can take a private flight over the Lake District, giving you a birds-eye view of its famous landmarks, including Windermere, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man. It’s a chance to see this stunning landscape from a different perspective, as well as giving you some Insta-worthy photos.
Flight sharing provider Wingly is offering people the chance to book flights in the UK and in Europe - and one of the routes on offer is right on our doorstep.

Taking off from Blackpool Airport, the flight heads north with incredible views of the Fylde coast and Morecambe Bay. Then as you peer out the window you’ll be able to see the spectacular landscape of the Lake District unfold before you.
Depending on the weather and cloud cover the route may vary, but the plane usually flies along the length of Lake Windermere and takes in views of Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man. On the return journey you’ll pass over Coniston Water, Grange-over-Sands and Arnside and Silverdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There’s a degree of flexibility on what you can see during the flight and detours can be made if you have any special requests. Landmarks such as Aira Force, Levens Hall and Lancaster Castle are among those which can be added to the route. You can plan an alternative route from Carlisle Airport by arrangement.
During the flight the pilot will provide commentary throughout. The plane only seats three passengers and the journey lasts an hour and 15 minutes - so you can see the highlights of the Lake District within one afternoon.
