'There is no friendly' - Patrice Evra unleashes furious rant after Manchester United legends lose to Liverpool

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has slammed his former Manchester United teammates for their absence in the club’s charity game loss to Liverpool.

Manchester United Legends lost 3-1 to Liverpool Legends on Saturday in a game that raised £1.3m for the Manchester United Foundation. The foundation uses football to engage and inspire young people to build a better life and unite the communities in which they live.

Two goals from Mark Gonzalez and a strike from Luis Garcia helped the Reds to victory at Old Trafford with Dimitar Berbatov getting on the scoresheet for the Red Devils. The Liverpool side, managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish, included former stars such as Jamie Carragher, Dirk Kuyt and Jerzy Dudek. United’s squad included Gary Neville, Berbatov and Jaap Stam but a number of players had to withdraw from the game at late notice. This included Paul Scholes and Dwight Yorke, while Diego Forlan’s flight to England got cancelled and Evra was scathing in his assessment of those who missed out.

“I’m sorry for the fans,” he told MUTV. “I know it's a charity game, but there is a rivalry between the two clubs. There is no friendly match. Where are the English players?

“I live in Dubai. I came from there. When Man Utd call, you answer. I think more legends should be here today. When United calls you, you have to be there.”
