Newcastle United fans have reacted to the recent news that Dan Burn has been left out of the England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast. Given the recent form of both Harry Maguire and Tyrone Mings, some Magpies fans believe Burn had a fair shout at being included, with United having won five of their last six Premier League games.
Burn, 29, joined Newcastle from Brighton and Hove Albion in January and has since provided some much needed stability at centre-back when the Toon needed it most. Now, having conceded a mere four goals since his introduction, Eddie Howe's men have catapulted themselves up the table and away from any lingering relegation woes.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been included for the first time, and is no surprise given his progression through the England youth system, most recently with the Under 21 set-up. @tm_boxingpt began by posting: ''Dan Burn is desperately unlucky to not make that England squad but seeing Marc Guehi in there is a good sign. Shows that Southgate is open to looking at different defenders, only a matter of time for the Blyth Bonucci.
@antonystoz spoke on the bias he felt, writing: ''Huge amount of bias in my opinion however, Brighton's downturn in form (and leaky defence) coincides with Newcastle's upturn in form (and strongest defence in league in 2022). Dan Burn is the link... A colossus of a man and surely worth a call-up?.
@zook3961 and @Ben98whiteley both shared similar views, adding: ''Southgate actually doesn’t watch football, Dan Burn should absolutely be in this squad. The latter posting: ''How’s Maguire about to get a call up over big Dan Burn.''
Whilst @Kyle44061611 said: ''Tyrone Mings over Dan Burn? No wonder we don’t win anything. Wrong choices, just going for the badge they play for.''
