A conspiracy theory has been sparked suggesting that Beyonce is cursedas violent and awkward incidents seem to follow her wherever she goes when it comes to awards.
The 40-year-old music icon was an Oscar nominee herself on Sunday night as she was up for the Best Song award for her song, Be Alive, from the film King Richard – although she sadly lost out to Billie Eilish who won for her Bond theme, No Time To Die.
But while Beyonce may not have been called on stage to pick up a gong on Sunday night, she did at least have a ringside seat for all the drama that unfolded when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock square across the face after he made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
The world’s cameras captured Beyonce and her 52-year-old husband Jay-Z ’s very different reactions as they watched on as Will returned to his chair to scream “Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth!”
Fans took to social media after noticing Bey and Jay’s reaction – with many considering the chart topping star could be cursed when it comes to awards shows as she been present for a string of high-profile dramas.
One fan posed on Twitter : “Imagine being Beyonce and having a front row seat to Solange beating up her husband in an elevator, Kanye vs Taylor Swift, Lil Mama jumping on the stage at the VMAs and Chris Rock getting slapped.”
The tweet was echoed by another user who wrote: “Beyonce is living for the messiness and Jay having PTSD flashbacks of Solange in that elevator.”
While another, addressing the Will vs Chris smackdown, tweeted: “Why are y’all saying ‘not in front of Beyonce’ like she didn’t watch Solange beat up Jay in an elevator.”
The exchanges highlighted a range of headline-making pop culture moments – along with Sunday night’s now infamous spat between Will and Chris.
Back in 2014, eyebrows were raised when footage emerged from an elevator showing Beyonce’s younger sister, Solange, launching a furious and physical attack on Jay-Z following the MET Gala.
The vicious outburst prompted many to question what could have possibly happened to provoke Solange to lash out at her brother-in-law – while Beyonce stood by and did nothing to intervene.
Prior to this, in 2009, rapper Lil Mama invaded the MTV EMAs stage while Jay and Alicia Keys were performing – after Beyonce reportedly desperately tried to hold her back, but to no avail.
During the same ceremony, Kanye West stole Taylor Swift’s thunder when she was awarded the Video Vanguard Award as he stole the microphone to declare: “I’m really happy for you and I'mma let you finish but Beyonce has had one of the best videos of all time!”
Cameras panned to a very awkward looking Beyonce who cringed as Kanye sabotaged Taylor’s moment.
Sunday night saw more drama for Beyonce and Jay-Z as the billionaire rap star hosted a post-Oscars party at the Chateau Marmont – only for an army of angry protestors to gather outside, creating a picket line that A List stars had to fight through to get to the event.
The protest was in relation to alleged workers rights infringements aimed at the owners of the infamous hotel – and not directed at Jay-Z himself in any way.
Meanwhile, when it comes to acts of violence, apparently Jay is a big fan – as long as he is not the victim of the drama.
After Will caused furore at the Oscars when he slapped Chris, footage resurfaced of the King Richard actor discussing a previous violent incident.
The star had previously slapped notorious red carpet prankster Vitalii Sediuk when he tried to kiss the American actor on the red carpet of Moscow premiere of Men in Black 3 in 2012.
Discussing the incident during a Tidal podcast in 2018, Will claimed Jay-Z told him: “I just saw the video of you slapping the dude in Russia, I just want you to know you’ll never make a better piece of entertainment. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
“Me and B, we got a show tonight, but we thinking about canceling and just staying in and just watching you slap this dude.”
