It’s been over a year since The Young and the Restless featured a new baby, and it’s about time one hit the Genoa City scene. Thankfully, it looks like there are three residents in town we think are prime candidates to help usher in new life, and the good news is that with each one comes a certain level of drama.
First and foremost, let's talk about Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). She and Billy (Jason Thompson) have been together now for a while. Although the couple was happy in love, some natural distance has developed between them as she focuses her attention on Conner (Judah Mackey) and helping him with his recent issues with OCD.
As Chelsea has been struggling with all this, both saddened by her son’s plight and triggered due to her own mental health battles, she’s found herself leaning less on Billy and more on Adam (Mark Grossman), which makes sense. After all, Adam is Conner’s father and is also upset not knowing how to help his son make it over this hump. Plus, Adam and Chelsea have a long romantic history, so the exes know each other very well. With all the extra time they’ve been spending together, we weren’t surprised when they found themselves in bed together, cheating on Billy and Sally (Courtney Hope).
Claiming to still be committed to Billy, yet having a romp in the hay with Adam, sets up the perfect soapy scenario for Chelsea to soon discover she’s pregnant. Questions around paternity are often a big thing surrounding pregnancies in The Young and the Restless, last exemplified when Sally wasn’t certain if she was pregnant with Adam’s baby or Nick’s (Joshua Morrow). So if Chelsea discovers she’s with child in the very near future, we can imagine she’ll be very panicked and some heavy drama will follow.
Now speaking of Sally, she’s also a candidate for pregnancy so to speak. After baby Ava died last summer, we’ve been hopeful that she would soon find herself in a situation to get pregnant again when the time was right. The time may be now. She and Adam are back together, although he again cheated with Chelsea recently, so Sally may feel they should try for another baby.
If Sally were to become pregnant with Adam’s child, that would cause quite the tight spot for Adam. Although Adam and Chelsea regret what they’ve done, we suspect that sleeping together awakened some dormant feelings for them. It’s not hard to imagine that they’ll have a few more romantic encounters and realize they want to be together again.
Should this prove to be the case, and they both agree to break up with their respective partners, it’s possible Adam would want to stay with Sally if she finds out she’s expecting. Considering he and Sally broke up the last time she was pregnant, he may opt to be with her this go-around to help make sure she has a smooth nine months. Chelsea likely wouldn’t be happy in the scenario, but she’d probably understand.
Now our last theory about who may become pregnant may seem a bit far-fetched as we think it could be Summer (Allison Lanier). She’s currently dating Chance (Conner Floyd) and as viewers know, doctors said he’s unable to have children, a diagnosis revealed when he and Abby (Melissa Ordway) were trying to have a baby.
However, what if Summer and Chance have a miracle pregnancy? It wouldn’t be the first time that such has happened on the soap, so it’s in the realm of possibility. Plus, with her about to engage in a custody war with Kyle (Michael Mealor) over Harrison (Redding Munsell), one we aren’t sure she’ll win given she never officially adopted the young boy, it may be nice for her to learn she’s carrying a baby after a court loss.
In another scenario, what if Summer cheats on Chance with Kyle? Summer and Kyle have been at odds for a while now, but we tend to think some of that stems from jealousy as Claire (Hayley Erin) gets closer to Kyle and Harrison. Considering Summer and Kyle have a very long romantic history, it wouldn’t be surprising if, during a heated argument, the two gave into a moment of passion that caused her to become pregnant. This again plays into the mystery paternity storyline, and with Summer being Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) daughter, the probability of good drama is high.
New episodes of The Young and the Restless air weekdays on CBS. Episodes become available to stream on Paramount Plus the next day.
