The Young and the Restless spoilers: as Sharon unleashes on Phyllis, is this a sign Phyllis may be in danger?

Sharon Case as Sharon upset in The Young and the Restless.

From the moment The Young and the Restless' Sharon (Sharon Case) shared with Nick (Joshua Morrow) that she began taking new medication for her bipolar disorder, we knew a troubling storyline was brewing. Since that conversation at Crimson Lights, Sharon's behavior has become increasingly peculiar.

For starters, after Faith (Reylynn Caster) asked Nick and Sharon to share their romantic history, which naturally brought up Cassie's (Camryn Grimes) death, Sharon has been thinking more and more about her deceased daughter, often dreaming about the tragedy that took her life. Sharon even "hears" Cassie calling out to her when she's awake. While remembering a child you lost doesn't register in the realm of odd, hearing ghosts just might.

Then in The Young and the Restless episode airing July 19, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Nick have an impromptu lunch at society when Sharon walks in. After Sharon awkwardly says hello and walks to the bar to wait for her takeout, Phyllis notes that Sharon's demeanor is different. Phyllis describes that during their recent run-ins, it seemed as if Sharon was mentally "somewhere else," and when Phyllis tries to hold a conversation with her, Phyllis states, "... it's like she doesn't even know who I am?"

Phyllis also brings up an incident at Crimson Lights in which she ordered her usual coffee and Sharon instead served her an overly sweet product, much to Phyllis' dissatisfaction. Thinking it was a prank, Phyllis brought it up to Sharon, but Phyllis notes the Crimson Lights owner was not pleased and exploded. However, Sharon quickly offered an "overly sweet apology" for her outburst.

The story leaves Nick a bit worried. He eventually shares with Phyllis that Sharon's new medicine may be to blame for her unusual reactions, and then asks if it's okay to invite Sharon to sit with them while Sharon waits for her takeout order. Phyllis begrudgingly okays the idea and Sharon joins them for quite the strange encounter.

Phyllis tries her best to be pleasant and make small talk, but Sharon is a bit standoffish. Sharon is more concerned about the amount of time Phyllis and Nick have been spending together lately, but Phyllis makes it clear nothing romantic is going on. Phyllis and Nick are just trying to rally behind Summer (Allison Lanier) as she struggles with some things.

Trying to pivot the conversation, Phyllis brings up her innocent and lovely chat with Faith in the park. Phyllis describes the pleasant discussion and how she offered Faith some sound advice about moving on after her breakup. Phyllis also mentions discussing with Faith the past issues with Sharon over Nick. Although the conversation was innocent,  Sharon didn't like hearing about it at all. She ripped into Phyllis and demanded Phyllis not give Faith any advice on romance or discuss the shared past with Nick.

Both Nick and Phyllis are left stunned by Sharon's overreaction as she walks away, and we are baffled. We're also concerned about what Sharon's revved-up animosity could mean for Phyllis going forward.

We already have a hunch that history is about to repeat itself with an ironic twist when Faith and Phyllis' granddaughter Lucy (Lily Brooks O'Briant) find themselves in a car accident, mimicking the one that killed Cassie and injured Daniel (Michael Graziadei). That's sure to have a devastating effect on all those involved, including Sharon. However, with Sharon targeting her insults and unfriendly attitude toward Phyllis again, could Phyllis soon find herself in danger?

Sharon is behaving more erratically with each passing day, so it's possible Sharon may become convinced that Phyllis poses a threat to her and her family. Should that happen, there's no telling what Sharon may do in order to protect her loved ones. Could a violent incident be in the cards between the two ladies?

Although we can't be certain, we are pretty sure that Nick may want to keep an eye out on the brewing hostilities from Sharon. It spells trouble.

New episodes of The Young and the Restless air weekdays on CBS. Episodes become available to stream on Paramount Plus the next day.
