Celtic were linked with a whole host of potential striker solutions throughout the winter transfer window, but ultimately failed to find a replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi.
One of those names was David Strelec from Slovan Bratislava, a team familiar to Celtic after the two sides met in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season.
After his agent admitted late last night that the deal wouldn’t go ahead, his father, Milan, has since revealed how Strelec Jr. feels about the opportunity to move to the Scottish Premiership being closed until the summer.
Speaking to Slovakian outlet Sport 24, he said: "The clubs did not agree. And is David sad?
“First of all, he is a professional, and he takes it that way. The world will not collapse.
“David was very interested in staying, helping Slovan win the championship and also getting back into the main stage of the Champions League.
“I don't take it as tragic either, although a transfer to Celtic would be great."
The same source also claims that Celtic offered £8million in a last-gasp attempt to lure the 23-year-old to Glasgow, but Slovan Bratislava demanded £9.5m.
After the window shut, Strelec’s agent, Michal Cerny, confirmed a move was off the table, saying, “Yes, for now it is.”
