The Wilko product branded 'game changer' for air fryer owners that costs just £1.75

Huge numbers of us have over the last year ditched our ovens in favour of a plug-in air fryer which requires less electricity than most conventional ovens. Users have spoken out about the cheaper cost of running them and the favourable results of cooking — you can browse and buy them here.

An avalanche of articles online have provided all sorts of tips on how to use them, including cooking your whole Christmas dinner in one. Meanwhile, B&M has brought back "the cheapest 4.5-litre air fryer on the market" — you can buy it here.

But while the gadget may come at a lower running cost, it does have its downsides. Some shoppers say their air fryers have proven difficult to clean, particularly if cooking greasy items. But resourceful owners have come up with their own solution - and it costs as little as £1.75.

Shoppers say one Wilko product can leave your air fryer sparkling clean within minutes, MEN reports. Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, Liz Bradley said: "A game changer for me if you've got an air fryer and you can’t get grease off the basket put some over basket and add boiling water and leave to steep then wipes straight off. I was really amazed."

The product is bicarbonate of soda, and the cheapest we found online was a 500g box from Wilko, which will set you back £1.75. However, boxes of the bicarbonate of soda are currently on a three for £3.50 offer - which works out at £1.17 per box.

Responding to the post, Edith Prest said: "Bicarbonate best thing since sliced bread. Got a big bucket. I use it for everything." Amna Shareefa Khan said: "I brought from B&M."

Sharon Prosser suggested: "Put it with white vinegar, even better." Cherish Barnes said: "Best cleaning product around. Makes light work of oven doors."

Julie Stewart said: "I buy this from Savers - super cheap and multi purpose. Blocked drains - add vinegar, fridge and washing machine clean. Caroline Blackie said: "Oooo thanks for this, I really struggle to clean mine!" You can find Bicarbonate of Soda in all major supermarkets and budget stores including Home Bargains, B&M and Wilko.
