The White Sox entered the 2022 season with almost impossible expectations. In the second year of the Tony La Russa era, many had them pegged as the clear favorite in the AL Central and a bona fide World Series contender.
It hasn’t worked out that way. Far from it. Two months into the year, the White Sox are a middling 25-27. They’re already five games behind the first-place Twins in the Central. They seem utterly incapable of building momentum and goodwill against just about any squad.
That is, except for the typical heavyweights of the AL East: The Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox. After a 6-5 win against Tampa Bay (+1.5) on Sunday, the White Sox officially finished the 2022 season 11-8 against three of the proposed best teams in baseball:

Wow. Wait, where’s the rub? Oh, if we simply do the math, it’s that Chicago is just 14-19 against everyone else in baseball. That’s… not good.
The White Sox’s year isn’t over by any means. If they were able to stay afloat against the AL East, they could salvage their season yet. If only they could play against the same three teams every night then all their troubles would be washed away.
