The West Ham stars of the Women's World Cup from Jane Ross to Ria Percival

The Women’s 2019 World Cup in France has officially begun and the tournament is poised to be the best we have ever seen.

Friendships will be put to one side with four Hammers battling it out with for the most prestigious trophy in the game.

Here is all you need to know about the competing player from West Ham in France.

Cho So-hyun

Nation: South Korea

Age: 30

Position: Midfielder

International squad number: 8

The South Korea captain signed for West Ham in January 2019 and made seven appearances.

Cho is her country’s most capped player with 120 appearances to her name along with 20 goals.

West Ham’s number 20 is known for her playmaking abilities and flair on the ball.

The 30-year-old will be looking to drive her side further into the latter stages this year having previously reached the last 16 in 2015.

Cho has represented five clubs in her career that is lined with silverware.

The South Korean playmaker sealed her first honour in 2013 with Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women's FC.

Jane Ross

Nation: Scotland

Age: 29

Position: Striker

International squad number: 13

Jane Ross has appeared 127 times for Scotland scoring 58 goals since she made her debut in 2009.

The Hammers’ striker started her career with Glasgow City, winning six Scottish Women’s Premier League titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups.

Scotland will hope Ross’ trophy winning habits will pay dividends in France.

Ross is also seasoned in the English game and helped lead Manchester City to the Women’s Super League in 2016 before joining West Ham in 2018.

Adriana Leon

Nation: Canada

Age: 26

Position: Striker

International squad number: 19

This will be the Canadian striker’s second successive World Cup tournament.

Leon was a second-half substitute in the Canada side who were defeated 2-1 in the quart-final stage by England.

West Ham’s number 19 has made 57 appearances for her national team, and in that time has managed 17 goals.

Leon struggled to find the back of the net since joining the Hammers and will certainly be looking to set the record straight with international glory at stake.

Ria Percival

Nation: New Zealand

Age: 29

Position: Defender

International squad number: 2

West Ham’s defender has made 141 appearances for New Zealand.

The Football Ferns will be looking to her for experience and reliability at the back.

West Ham’s number two made her international debut in 2006 against China.

She would later appear in China for her first World Cup where New Zealand finished bottom of Group D.

Percival will therefore be targeting the knockout stages having never qualified from the group stages.
