One of the world's biggest law firms Eversheds Sutherland has elected senior partner of its Cardiff office, Kathryn Roberts, as its new chair. Welsh speaking Ms Roberts, originally from Llandeilo, will serve in the role for four years at the law firm which employs 3,000 lawyers across 74 offices in 35 countries.
On her new role Ms Roberts said: “I’m looking forward to applying my experience to achieve the very best for the firm, and welcome the ongoing support already being offered to me by the partners and our people. Together we will ensure that Eversheds Sutherland continues to achieve its strategic objectives through the values it holds at its heart.”
Chief executive of Eversheds Sutherland, Lee Ranson, said: “On behalf of the firm, I would like to congratulate Kathryn on her election as chair. Kathryn brings a wealth of experience to the role, gained through leading significant client relationships and senior leadership positions for the firm and externally.”
Ms Roberts is also chair in Wales of employers’ organisation CBI, a role she will stand down from in December. She is also committed advocate for the promotion of diversity, gender parity and social mobility in the legal profession.
As one of the founding members of the Monumental Welsh Women group, she is helping to spearhead a campaign dedicated to recognising the contribution of women to the history and life of Wales by way of a public art project with five new statues over the next five years. This has already seen a statue to the first black head teacher in Wales, Betty Campbell, unveiled in the centre of Cardiff.
Ms Roberts has been succeeded as senior partner in Wales by Tom Bray.
