The weird items left behind at Edinburgh Travelodge hotels last year

Getting home after a weekend away and discovering something is missing from your bags. We have all been there, right?

And most of the time it is a jacket or a charger or in some cases a piece of jewellery that may be an expensive loss. However, some guests may forget to pick up an item a little more on the peculiar side.

Staff from the nine Travelodge hotels across Edinburgh have shared the unlikely things they have come across upon a guest departure and some are just incredibly difficult to comprehend.

Millions of people rest their head in a travel lodge across the capital throughout the year, with some a lot more forgetful that others, apparently.

And during the last 12 months there have been a fair few shocking morning after discovery in the rooms within the hotel chain. Discovering include a comedian's black book of joke, a political speech and even a furry, four legged family member.

One guest even managed to leave behind two first class tickets from Edinburgh Airport to Cancun. A pretty expensive mistake, eh?

Another patriotic guest staying at Edinburgh Central Travelodge left behind a 24ct gold photo frame showcasing a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II from her Coronation in 1953. The guest, who was of a similar age as the late queen, had her son-in-law drive back from the Shetland Islands to collect her most prized possession once she realised that she had left it behind.

Have a look below at the weirdest things guests have left behind in the Travelodge hotels across Edinburgh this year.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge Spokeswoman said: “With millions of customers annually staying at our 41 Scottish Travelodge hotels, for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind. During 2022, this included a 5 ft. commemorative Royal Scottish Standard Flag, a five tier red tartan wedding cake, a family of Scottish Guard ducklings, a trunk of royal memorabilia, a comedian’s black book of jokes and two professionally trained ‘sheep dog’ Border Collies called Hamish and Ramsay.

“Interestingly the 2022 lost and found audit also revealed that we are a nation striving for a healthy lifestyle as we have seen a significant rise in smart watches being left behind in our Travelodge hotels in Scotland during the last 12 months.

“When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten.”
