The Weeknd forced to cancel Los Angeles concert after losing his voice during set

Canadian singer The Weeknd was forced to cancel a concert in California on Saturday after losing his voice during the set.

Midway through his hit song 'Can't Feel My Face' the singer-songwriter came to a halt before walking off the stage in Inglewood, near Los Angeles.

The 32-year old, performing as part of his 'After Hours til Dawn Tour' later returned, but subsequently issued an apology to the SoFi Stadium crowd and promised to reschedule at a later date.

Real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, the star told attendees: "I can't give you the concert I want to give you right now.

"I want to come out and personally apologise, I'm so sorry, I love you guys so much."

On Sunday, meanwhile, he reiterated his apology on both his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Addressing his 42.7 million followers, The Weeknd wrote: "My voice went out during the first song and I'm devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped."

He continued: "My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I'll make it up to you with a new date.

Fans reacted sympathetically by offering the star their support with one Twitter user responding: "We love you Abel. Please take of yourself and your voice."

Another added: "You've been touring non-stop for a month straight, this is totally understandable, please rest up and feel better soon, we love you."

A third declared: "Health before anything brotha, drink some water, get some sleep, eat some food and get back on that stage at 100%, I know you wanted to keep the show rolling but hey life happens. Get better soon. You deserve the rest."

And a fourth said: "This is the real Abel, not a celebrity. He had the courage to say this on stage, rather than sending someone else on his behalf to say these words. Other celebrity only do the lip syncing with their songs. But Abel sings each and every song from his heart. Get well soon Abel."

The Weeknd's next scheduled tour date is Thursday September 22, where he is due to perform at the Rogers Center in Toronto, Canada.
