The Weeknd kicked off 2022 with a bang, releasing his highly-anticipated fifth album Dawn FM in the first week of the year. Since then, he’s been busy gearing up for a worldwide arena tour in support of both Dawn FM and his smash pandemic-era album After Hours, as well as supporting Dawn FM’s continued life cycle.

His latest visual from the project is a touching video for the heartfelt single “Out of Time,” out today. The song samples the beloved Japanese city pop song “Midnight Pretenders” by Tomoko Aran and Tetsurō Oda, and the video features an unexpected guest: Korean actress HoYeon Jung, who received international recognition last year for her role in Netflix’s smash series Squid Game.

In the video, The Weeknd and Jung bond as they sing “Out of Time” by themselves at a karaoke bar. He enjoys a blissful night with Jung that turns into a blinding dawn, and as he’s left alone to ponder the evening, the video flashes to the present version of The Weeknd as he lays on an operating table in a hospital. Jim Carrey, who acts as a narrator on the album, appears as a surgeon at the end and puts a mask on The Weeknd’s face.

“Out of Time” means a lot to The Weeknd, much like the whole of Dawn FM does for the Canadian singer. He told GQ last summer while he was working on the project that “it’s the album I’ve always wanted to make,” and looking at the LP’s lineup, it’s not surprising: he recruited Tyler, the Creator and Lil Wayne as featured guests, and even got music icon Quincy Jones on a spoken interlude.

Even though The Weeknd is in the midst of milking Dawn FM, he’s always thinking about his next move. “What makes any of my albums a successful album, especially [Dawn FM], is me putting it out and getting excited to make the next one. So the excitement to make the next project means that this one was successful to me,” he said proudly. “I want to do this forever.”
