The Watcher: What happened to the Brannock family in Netflix's creepy new thriller and where are they now?

Horror fan subscribers to popular streaming platform Netflix have been well and truly spoilt for choice this Autumn, with a number of new releases based on real life events to tuck into.

Viewers have been gripped earlier this month by the horrifying story of Dahmer and the accompanying documentary series Confessions of a Killer, while this week Mila Kunis' new movie Luckiest Girl Alive left thriller fans captivated by the sickening story of a woman haunted by a school shooting and traumatic rape.

But it's the latest Netflix release in The Watcher that has truly got everyone talking.

The seven-parter with a star studded cast - including Oscar nominee Naomi Watts- tells the tale of couple Dean and Nora Brannock (based on a couple sharing the surname Broaddus in real life) who move into a stunning home of 657 Boulevard with their children.

After falling in love with the beautiful property following a viewing, the family move in with haste. But the foreshadowed dream turns into a nightmare, when Dean begins receiving eerie letters and is exposed to bizarre behaviour from neighbours.

Nora and the kids move into a nearby motel, while Dean attempts to find out first hand who is behind the abuse, suspecting all in the vicinity including local police and a man who fitted home security cameras around the property.

Given that the series is far fetched at times, many have been bamboozled to learn that the thriller is based on real life events - with its final playout revealing that the case still remains unsolved to this day.

The Broaddus family were so unnerved by the letters, six months after closing on the property, purchasing the house for $1.4 million, they put it back on the market. In the summer of 2019, the family sold 657 Boulevard for $959,000.

But where are they now?

Where are the Broaddus family now?

According to an article published by the initial author of the original story on The Cut, the family still reside in Westfield. New Jersey. However, they have relocated to a different house.

Derek and Maria are also both affected by the trauma they were put through in real life as depicted in the Netflix series. The father branded the experience as 'traumatic' according to The Sun, adding that he believes that the real life Watcher is still around to this day.

The couple have also opted to live in private for the rest of their days, declining a number of interviews from TV shows and documentarians.

While they agreed to the Netflix series telling their real-life stories, they added that they wished for producers to change their names and that the dramatized family should not resemble them whatsoever on screen - Digital Spy reports.
