The Warriors getting a ring the same night Boston played the 76ers fueled Jayson Tatum opening night

Boston Celtics star swingman Jayson Tatum spoke with the press after the team’s 126-117 win over the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden on Tuesday. “This is the best I’ve felt coming into a season in the last two or three years,” shared the St. Louis native a summer after recovering from a fractured wrist.

Tatum didn’t want to talk about the offseason and the team’s NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors, however. “Everywhere I went, somebody mentions ‘Good job in the Finals, next year, you guys did well’. They mean it in a good way, but it’s just a reminder that we lost.,” he suggested. “It’s opening night, one team is getting a ring and we’re not — that kept me up last night”

The St. Louis native seemed as pleased as the rest of his teammates with the first win for Joe Mazzulla as the club’s interim head coach. “He’s just an overall good person,” explained Tatum.

“As much as I do on the court, he cares about the things that I do off the court. We’ve had a great relationship ever since he’s been here. I’m not crying, I’ve just got something in my eye,” finished the Duke product in a moment of levity.
