The Golden State Warriors were one of the top teams in the NBA during the first month of the 2024-25 season. Thanks to their deep bench and Steph Curry’s continued success, they jumped out to a 12-3 start and were in first place in the Western Conference as recently as November 24th.
Warriors Drop To 10th Place After Starting Season 12-3
It has been quite the opposite story since then. Over their last 14 games, the Warriors have been one of the league’s worst teams, posting a record of 3-11. The production from the bench unit has fallen off, and some of their starters have begun to struggle, as well. Even Curry hasn’t been his consistent self, putting up some of the worst games that he’s had in years, including a 2-point performance in 24 minutes against the Grizzlies last week.
They’ve taken a free fall in the West. Not only has Golden State dropped out of the top-6 in the conference, but they are currently sitting on the back end of the play-in tournament standings, in 10th place after their loss to the Lakers on Christmas. They share a 15-4 record with both the Suns and Timberwolves, but are behind them in the standings thanks to losing both tiebreakers. The 11th place Spurs are just a half-game back, and even the struggling Kings are just 2.5 games away.
Literally trade as many of those guys & as many picks are needed to get an actual star next to Steph.
This is absurd.
There is no “future without Steph” to protect, those guys are NOT good.

A change is needed. The Warriors already pulled the trigger on a trade in mid-December, bringing in Dennis Schröder from the Nets to boost the backcourt. It hasn’t helped all that much, as the newcomer is just 8.5 points per game on an abysmal 28.2% clip from the field, and 23.5% from long range. But they’re likely thinking bigger, and have been heavily mentioned in trade rumors surrounding guys like Jimmy Butler and Cam Johnson.
There is still a month and a half to go before the trade deadline, but Golden State might not be able to wait that long. The West is highly competitive, with 11 of the 15 teams at .500 or better, and the Warriors will need to put a stop to the bleeding if they want to move back up out of play-in range.
They’ll enjoy some home cooking as they look to get things back on track. After they take on the Clippers in Los Angeles on Friday, they’ll play each of their next six games at home, a stretch that will last until January 8th. It is one of three remaining home stands of at least 6 games that remains on the schedule, and the Warriors are ranked 20th in terms of remaining schedule strength.
