The Walrus Wins Silver in the Best Column category at the 2024 Digital Publishing Awards

The ninth annual Digital Publishing Awards soiree took place today. The awards “recognize excellence in the content and creation of Canadian digital media,”. The Walrus is delighted that Contributing Writer Michelle Cyca has won Silver in the Best Column category.

“The digital medium is at the core of how we convey our journalism to readers, and we’re happy to see our commitment to it recognized,” Editor-in-Chief Carmine Starnino said. “We’re very proud of the winner, Michelle, and the nominees and are thankful to work with such talented writers.”

The Walrus received four nominations: two in the Best Column category, and two for Best Personal Essay.

“It’s exciting to be celebrated alongside so many compelling voices and examples of thoughtful online storytelling. We’re especially happy that the writers who launched our contributing writer program are being considered at these awards for their timely and wide-ranging stories.”
—Monika Warzecha, Digital Editor

As an independent media organization, The Walrus thrives on creating in-depth, investigative stories that appeal to audiences in Canada and beyond through digital channels. The stories and writers recognized at the Digital Publishing Awards personify that goal.

The Walrus congratulates all the contributors and staff who were nominated and won awards for their digital storytelling.
