The Walrus is honoured to have won GOLD for Best Personal Essay awards at the 8th annual Digital Publishing Awards. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, The Walrus is proud of its digital publishing achievements and growth on thewalrus.ca. The rise of digital platforms has allowed The Walrus to move from newsstands to newsfeeds to reach a larger audience and create more conversations across Canada and around the world.
“It’s always a thrill to be in the running for a Digital Publishing Award,” said Interim Editor-in-Chief Carmine Starnino, “but I’m especially grateful for this year’s accolades and toast the National Media Awards Foundation for championing the important role digital journalism plays in our society.”
The Walrus has been recognized at the Digital Publishing Awards for several years. This year, the organization was nominated for four stories showcasing the range of topics the organization covers, including celebrity profiles, mental health, the influence of social media, and Indigenous issues.
“It’s wonderful to see this article celebrated,” said Monika Warzecha, Digital Editor at The Walrus. “This year, the Digital Publishing Awards nominees prove that, even in a time of media flux, writers and editors are publishing important and insightful digital stories.”
