The Voice UK 2019: From Lonnie Donegan’s son to a dynamic trio- the must-see blind auditions in episode one

The Voice UK is officially back with a fresh batch of contestants hoping to wow returning coaches Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Will.i.am.

As with every year, hopefuls have just 90 seconds to captivate the stars, enticing them to turn their chairs around and secure themselves a place on a team.

Here are the must-see acts from episode one:

Mike Platt

Mike Platt: Platt was the first hopeful on-stage (ITV)

On-call firefighter Platt shared hopes to swap his firefighting gear for a microphone.

The 32-year-old revealed his colleagues “secretly think I’m alright”, and he was optimistic his rendition of Maria McKee’s Show Me Heaven would captivate the coaches.

Thankfully for Platt, his smooth vocals and wide vocal range proved enough to win him a place on Team Tom.

Heidi Lewis

Heidi Lewis: Lewis crooned an emotional rendition of Lost Without You (ITV )

Lewis is a 17-year-old student with a dream to move on from education to a professional singing career.

Tackling Freya Ridings’ Lost Without You, Lewis approached the stage armed with a powerful vocal range, touching on a Taylor Swift-esque sound.

Unfortunately, her vulnerable take on the song wasn’t quite enough to secure her a coach, but Sir Tom did admit she was “almost there.”

Remember Monday

Remember Monday: The trio impressed with their vocals (ITV)

This lively trio from Surrey, formed of Charlotte Steele, Holly-Ann Hull and Lauren Byrne, have been rehearsing every Monday for seven years, which inspired their name, and were hopeful their time together would equip them with an advantage.

Powering through their rendition of Seal’s Kiss From a Rose, the group kicked off the song with a bold acapella introduction showcasing their vocal ability.

Remember Monday’s flawless harmonies and exceptional timing proved a crowd-pleaser and even led Hudson to throw their heel in front of them, in a bid to praise them for having soul. Naturally the move left them unable to decline Hudson’s offer for a place on her team.

Peter Donegan

Peter Donegan: The singer hoped to honour his dad (ITV)

Son to British rock and roll hero Lonnie Donegan, Peter shared hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps while still paving a name for himself.

Melting hearts with his captivating rendition of Racal Flatts’ Bless the Broken Road, Donegan showcased emotional melodies and a heart-breaking vocal.

His effortless audition proved worthy of a place in the competition with Sir Tom, who revealed he previously sung with Lonnie, in an emotional exchange.

Liam Walker

Liam Walker: Walker just missed out on a slot on the show (ITV)

Tree surgeon Liam Walker told how he was ready to put aside his physically demanding job in a bid to secure a better living for his family.

Taking on an acoustic rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s iconic Landslide, Walker effortlessly manoeuvred his way through the vocal.

Sadly his emotional performance missed out on a place in the competition, despite capturing the hearts of the coaches. The audience were left devastated and the judges even admitted they may have made a mistake.

The Voice continues Saturday on ITV at 8pm
