The Voice fans left ‘in tears’ as Tom Jones makes emotional admission about his late wife

The Voice fans were left emotional as the series returned, after Sir Tom Jones gave an emotional performance to the studio audience and reduced his fellow judges to tears.

After chants from fans, the 82-year-old was handed a microphone and performed I Won't Crumble With You If You Fall to the live audience.

The studio fell silent during the soulful rendition and fellow judges Anne-Marie and Olly Murs were seen tearing up at the track from his Surrounded By Time album.

After he had finished, Tom took a moment to explain the meaning of the emotional ballad, which he said he had written in memory of his wife Melinda, who died in 2016 aged 75.

He told the audience: “My wife, you know, she was dying of lung cancer, so I said, you know, I was always able to fix stuff, to do things if she needed me I was always there.

“She said, 'Don't crumble with me, don't fall now, you've done everything you can, you must carry on and do what you do.

“So I put the song, when I heard it, it was like it was written for this situation. It's a lovely song.”

The Voice viewers at home were similarly left emotional by the moment, and took to Twitter to praise the powerful rendition, with one writing: “Sir Tom Jones there making the country cry.”

“Gosh Tom can sing that was such a beautiful song the meaning made me cry,” a fellow fan wrote, as another chimed: “Not a dry eye in the house after that by Tom Jones.”

Another wrote: “Oh my sweet baby jesus.. Tom Jones what an absolutely amazing singer. Tears rolling listening to him talk about his wife,” as one said: “Tom Jones singing that beautiful song for his wife when she was dying. I’m in bits sobbing.”

One The Voice viewer penned: “There's a reason why Tom Jones has a no.1 album at the age of 81 and he's just proven why. Best voice ever. So emotional.”

Another added: “Wow @RealSirTomJones just made me cry singing on The Voice he is amazing.”

Tom had previously admitted he would never love again following the death of his wife Linda. The couple had met when they were 12 years old on the way to school in Treforest, South Glamorgan and were married for nearly sixty years before her death.

This comes after Anne-Marie and Olly Murs opened up about the emotional performance, which was recorded months in advance.

"Tom sang one of his songs called Crumble, and I had to walk off. Not because it was bad, but because it was so emotional. I think this is a testament to him and why he's been able to stay around so long because he feels every word he says," Anne-Marie shared to The Mirror and other press of the emotional moment which fans will see in the new series.

"Every song he releases, he means it. He will sing that song and said this is to my wife and it just f***ed me up."

Olly added: "You could just see someone who loved his wife so much. You could see that pain in his eyes."
