The unseen footage which details how Amanda Staveley transformed Newcastle & potential Amazon fee

Newcastle United's upcoming Amazon Prime documentary is set to focus on co-owner Amanda Staveley's incredible turnaround behind the scenes at St James' Park.

In it, the four-part series will go behind the scenes in the club's boardroom with Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi giving producers and viewers an incredible insight to the work carried out since the takeover went through in October 2021. Before the takeover was completed, the boardroom was described by insiders as "pretty much an empty shell" with Mike Ashley usually absent and the club ran on a day-to-day basis by former managing director Lee Charnley and the Sports Direct magnate's close associate Justin Barnes.

But now Staveley has ensured that there is strong representation from the board at every game. Toon supremo Yasir Al-Rumayyan regularly takes his seat in the stands at St James' Park but Staveley, Ghodoussi, Jamie Reuben, Darren Eales and Dan Ashworth provide the club with real executive backbone.

But during the Amazon series, fans will get to see Staveley's influence around the club and how the boardroom has been transformed from a cold place with suspicion and doubt in the air, to a family environment. Staveley has been keen to emphasise that the club need to make the upper echelons a welcoming place and be inclusive with her work on the NUFC Women's team there for all to see.

The new documentary will follow Staveley around and introduce the audience to the cast of characters around the club as well as offering insight to key decisions behind the scenes. And that will include parts of how Newcastle went about the signing of £45million forward Anthony Gordon from Everton.

Staveley has a close bond with the playing staff and Eddie Howe and that is something that will also shine through in the new series. The documentary will be put together by Lorton Entertainment and 72 Films and is set to be aired at the end of the season.

On Saturday, the cameras were present to capture the mood of disappointment at Aston Villa during the 3-0 defeat. Fly on the wall footage of the team's response to the loss will soon become available to fans.

Manager Eddie Howe stated that Newcastle had to have an open mind with the Amazon cameras around in order to boost club coffers, he said: "I think it would be foolish of me to say 'no, these cameras aren't going to follow us around', then go 'we need to sign new players'.

"They'll say 'we haven't got the money, we can't do it because of FFP, and you've turned away this opportunity for the club to turn away more income’.

"I'm never going to go against the club in that, I'll always try and support it. I think the inner working of a football club, it's delicate."

It is yet to be confirmed how much Newcastle earn from the documentary but Arsenal picked up £10million from their All or Nothing series. That documentary showcased Mikel Arteta's steady job of laying foundations behind the scenes before this season's title tilt.

United's series will showcase the bid for a Champions League place and footage from the Carabao Cup final on the day Newcastle lost to Man United.

Newcastle CEO Darren Eales said of the documentary last month: "We are excited to be offering global football fans a front row seat at this exciting time in Newcastle United’s history. The documentary will give football and non-football fans across the globe a unique and authentic insight into how a major Premier League club operates and will take fans on the journey with us as we strive to achieve our goals on and off the pitch."
