The unexpected possible solution to St Mirren penalty-taker problem

Stephen Robinson has admitted he could change his St Mirren penalty-taker for a third time this season.

The Buddies boss is considering a switch after Greg Kiltie saw his spot-kick saved by Ross Laidlaw in the 0-0 draw with Ross County.

Club captain Mark O'Hara is the regular penalty-taker for St Mirren but passed on the responsibility after seeing his effort from 12 yards saved against Motherwell.

Now, Robinson could look to a perhaps unexpected alternative to take on penalty kick duties.

"I might be taking them next week," joked Robinson when quizzed on the decision to change penalty-taker.

"I never missed any," he said of his own record as a player, before adding: "I'm telling complete lies. I didn't miss many to be fair!"

"We'll have to have a look on Sunday and see who's stepping up. Actually, Marcus Fraser is excellent at them, so I might just have to go the more defensive route and do that.

"It was something we discussed [Kiltie taking penalty]. Mark's obviously missed a couple of penalties.

"Greg, anybody who steps up to take a penalty, let me be very clear, I have no criticism of anybody who's brave enough to do it. It's a pressure situation. It's a little bit of a lottery.

"But things happen. You miss penalties. That wasn't the reason we didn't win the game."

Meanwhile, centre-back Charles Dunne could return for St Mirren against Hibs next weekend after sitting out of the goalless draw in Paisley.

The defender had suffered a potential hamstring knock int he win over St Johnstone but could make a quickfire return. Alex Iacovitti remains sidelined for the forseeable.

"Alex is still a good bit away," said Robinson. "You know, he's making good progress, but he's still a good bit away.

"Charles, well, hopefully, he could be fit for the Hibs game, potentially. See how he goes this week. It gives us another defender to pick from."
